Filtration in heap leaching is constantly affected by concentration of fine particles over the geotextile filter, which compromise the drainage stability of the system. Although perforated pipelines are effective over the short-term, fine particles progressively displace towards the openings and clog the geotextile, resulting in a drastic drainage reduction. Alternatively, geocomposite drains increase the effective drainage channels over the total surface, which minimizes the probability of physical clogging.
